The Adventures of ManPurse: Jury Duty Part 1
Yes, ManPurse and I traveled to downtown Chicago yesterday for Jury Duty. As I walk into the Dirksen building I see many many TV crews and cameras. I walk and think to myself, "ARGH, why don't you read/watch the news "M"? Why? Why? Why?" Each "why" is punctuated with a heel of my palm slapping my forehead! Once in the Juror's Lounge, I start to eavesdrop since evidently some major trial has begun or is about to begin. I hear a fellow at a table near by mention Joey "the Clown" Lombardo of the Chicago Outfit. Mr. Lombardo is known as "The Clown" for his quick wit. (Side note: please don't call us "M" the clown or "A" the clown. Clowns scare me even if we are darned witty if we say so ourselves! And this was the extent of my research. I have no idea what this clown is accused of nor do I wish to find out!) So I sit there thinking, "I'm so sequestered in this jury." It's 9:30 AM. I keep quiet and mostly to myself while reading Janet Evanovich. She mentions Jimmy Curtains (a fictional mob boss) in the book, you see Jimmy, it's curtains for you!. I can't get this Clown guy out of my head. They call names... phew "m" isn't called in that lot of people. I continue to read and read and play with my crackberry. I e-mail The Hubby, I e-mail "A", I e-mail work, I e-mail Mom. The worst part about the waiting -- there is no one with whom I'm comfortable sharing my witty comments. I had several. Sigh. I let the witty comments pass and I chuckle softly to myself. I start reading again and realize that I'm going to finish this book by lunch if I don't play with my crackberry some more. I e-mail Mom to ask if she would be willing to get me #8 in the Stephanie Plum series. She says yes. MOM ROCKS!
The next group is getting called. I'm juror #9 or so. We go to the court room and I'm looking at the defense table. I see a man that looks like a scarier version of the Dearly Departed Dad from Six Feet Under and think it's possible that is a mob guy. I think that I'm going to be swimming with the fishies in some new cement boots! Luckily the judge states that the case is for a bank robbery. And the mob guy turns into a defense attorney. Phew. To make this long story a little shorter.... They ask questions... Do you work for a local, state or federal police department? I raise my hand. Any family members police officers or were they in the past? I raise my hand. Any other time constraints? I raise my hand. Needless to say I think that my extensive police knowledge got me out of it. PHEW. I am dismissed for the day
One guy got out of jury duty by saying his wife is an attorney and he is now cynical. The Judge stopped him and was disgusted by this man. He basically called him a bad citizen. I found myself not wanting the judge to be disappointed in me. So when he asked me if I could be impartial even though work with the PD, I respond with "I think I can." I didn't want to be called a bad citizen! What is silly is it wasn't the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I'm looking at the accused and thinking that he made some really bad choices and that is how he ended up there. Therefore, I have already thought that he is guilty. Sigh. I'll try to be less judgemental if I go back.
After I got dismissed, ManPurse and I went to PotBelly's for lunch. After that we went to the Bean in Millennium Park and to visit the Lions at the Art Institute of Chicago. We didn't have time to go in since I wanted to catch the train to get home before the storms came.
Here is an article I just found... http://dailyherald.com/story.asp?id=324042 Apparently I'm not out of the woods yet. But I'm not reading up on the trial just in case something happens and I have to return on Thursday or Friday! I think know that ManPurse will keep me safe. If not, call The Hubby or Jack Bauer if you don't hear from any of us by Friday and tell them to bring a jack hammer to get my new cement booties off!! LOL Also made an important note to myself: If you stop at the 7-11 to get the Double Big Gulp, hit the potty BEFORE you get to the court room. Yes, that commercial Gotta Go Gotta Go Gotta Go that features the woman with the overactive bladder was running through my head as they were interviewing the 40 prospective jurors! Better yet, skip the 64 ouncer and get the 32 only! I am learning!
Again Thanks to the Momcierge for getting the book. I finished the one I had and am starting the one you got me tonight! :-D

TV (lack thereof) and ManPurse
We have been enjoying our quiet nights without TV. We haven't turned on the TV more than three times since the end of May. Twice to watch a movie and another time to watch the weather Channel (which did turn into the Discovery channel to watch "How it's made". Who knew that was how aluminum foil was made LOL) I'm going to be curious if our electrical bills are reduced due to less electronics running.
Check back soon. Manpurse is going to be going on another adventure soon!
Definition of Manpurse (in part courtesy urbandictionary.com)
Manpurse or Man-purse [man purs]: What Jack Bauer carries on the show 24. It's like a purse, but it is rather manly, hence the name manpurse. Also known as a man bag
Examples:
Oh man, look at that manpurse.
OMG THAT IS JACK BAUER'S MANPURSE
Metrosexuals often use man purses.
Added after we veiwed the comment from Overpriced Designer Man Bag (Thanks for the comment!!):
Question asked in the comments.... Would Jack lose appeal if he carried a Prada man purse?
Perhaps he would lose a little appeal from this Blog's creators for spending close to what it costs to feed a small family for well over a month. Although, it looks durable with many pockets for the medi-interogation kit. As we know Jack needs something that can take a licking and keep on ticking. Perhaps he would be saving money in the long run by purchasing a more expensive bag. Friends of the 24 Blog, we look forward to your comments!

The Adventures of Man Purse!
I reposted this, I'm afraid some of you may have missed this :-)
Yes before we went on our trip, the Hubby bought a man purse. But in his defense (if that is the right word), he was always a proponent of them and would have purchased it without Jack' s influence. He said to me when we were dating and when I wasn't carrying a
purse that one of us has to LOL.
So here are the adventures of ManPurse. This one didn't have the medi-interogation nor the explosive accessories, but it did have the family accesories which occassionaly included diapers :-)
Getting ready for the big day at Epcot and the Magic Kingdom with a cuppa joe and the GPS.
.jpg)
It was ManPurse's (and ManPurse's owner) first trip to Disney so they got a special button. We had Comms in the form of the family radio. So ManPurse could contact CTU in case of hostiles as we were going through the Countries of Epcot.
ManPurse's last stop was the Magic Kingdom for a ride on It's a Small World. And Jack knows that is so true!

Previously On 24: 6.5 Potential Plot Moves
Ok, last week was in some ways lame. But in other ways, the writers have made moves that may have set the stage to advance the plot...
1. Karen, still weak from her time at the airport reading women's interest magazines, fired her own husband from his job to save her own job. I don't understand that completely, since she was quick to resign earlier in the season. (Maybe she had a film gig for a few weeks? I finally saw Syriana on Netflix...it was brilliant but I digress...and she had an extremely similar role. Maybe the directors of The Queen are doing Margaret Thatcher's life story next, with Karen in the title role. But I digress again.)
Karen's hand was forced because Chad Lowe has surfaced. In kind of a cool effect, actually, he appears on a laptop screen threatening to bring down the administration because Bill had caught, and released, one of the terrorists (yawn, I can't remember which one) back during season 3 or 4.
This sets the stage for Bill to go all rogue with Jack. The 24 Blog would heartily endorse this plot move.
2. A new character, the unfortunately named but fine looking Peter Hock, is introduced. He is the one who pressures Karen into firing Bill.
This one is a wild card. Hock may not be eeeevil but he sure is Machiavellian. But that is DC for you.
3. As Bill leaves CTU, he leaves Nadia in charge. She moves up from her job in IT (where she was only authorized to set a perimeter) to management (where she can shout "Pursue and Engage" into a telephone, presumably winding up in the ears of hundreds of tac team members). And I'm not sure that I understand this. How did Nadia get seniority over Milo? And how does the guy being escorted out by security get to designate his successor?
This sets the stage for Nadia -- if a mole -- to do something eeeevil. And if she is stupid, but not evil, she can let some high security clearance intel slip during pillow talk with Milo the next time they suck face in the server room. (Milo will then turn out to be evil. Which would at least make his character a bit more interesting. Petulance is far more attractive in a man when he is eeeevil.)
4. Speaking of sucking face, The Evil Veep and Blonde Toady get up close and personal.
This sets the stage for all Friends of The 24 Blog to say, "Eeeewww". And the Eeeewww factor can only go up as the stakes get higher between the two of them. (Wink wink.) The chemistry is about as volatile as limestone. Methinks that the 24 year old writers of 24, all amped up on Red Bull and Organic Blue Corn Tortilla Chips, erroneously believe that this story line will "Pursue and Engage" the fogeys in the 35-44 demographic. Um, nope.
5. Ricky is pursuing and engaging Jack.
This sets the stage for exactly nothing. Friend of The 24 Blog Kate read that Ricky was brought on before the writers actually had a job for him. That is clear.
6. Jack, Jack, Jack. Having decided to become a suicide bomber, Jack has stashed C-4 in his man purse so that he can go up in flames with the stereotypically nefarious Cheng...but only after he exchanges Awwwdrey for a circuit board to the suitcase nukes. This rogue action (previously endorsed by the brain damaged TEYOP) has put him in a world of hurt with Evil Veep's new administration, hence item 5, above.
Ricky screws up by failing to set a perimeter. Because he has rushed in to capture Jack before Jack could press the button on the detonator (huh? was there a detonator in his man purse, too?), Cheng has escaped.
(NB: Cheng now has the circuit board. But since Jack tossed it to him in a dark room, how does Cheng know it is the real thing? And as noted in comments last week, what is up with every firefight happening in the dark?)
This sets the stage for Jack to be under arrest again. It's back to CTU for you buddy. But maybe not...earlier, Jack had left a message on Bill's voicemail, revealing his plans. The old 24 would send Bill in to snag Jack and the two would go rogue together. (With Chloe's help.) Please, please, please let this be the case.
7. Awwwdrey is a mess. Other than hair issues (which I must not beat to death) (again) she appears to be suffering some kind of psychosis. How else to explain that she couldn't set the perimeter to snag Cheng?
This sets the stage for Jack to be tender. The 24 Blog hopes that it also sets the stage for the return of baby boomer hottie William Devane.
Ok, that's it for me. ("M" is back this week...girlfriend, you will be authoring some serious recaps in coming weeks. Because TEYOS (aka thirty-eight seven year old sister), you owe me! Hee hee.)

Previously on 24 from 10 - 11 PM Eeww index continues!
Gosh it really is the longest day ever! A special thanks for LPK and KeifersKate for joining us live and blogging with us last week. "A" and I had a lot of fun with all your comments!
Last on 24 we saw weaselly Tom trying to convince thetestosterone adrenaline junkie president to stop trying to blow up some country in the Middle East. I still don't believe that we know the name of the country, we are going to call it Fayed's Country (FC). At any rate, the TEYOP (for those just joining - the Twenty Eight Year Old President) is exhibiting many signs that he should have had the 25th amendment brought down on his rear. The ambassador of FC "implores" him to call off the nuke that the TEYOP has sent hurtling through the atmosphere to FC. The ambassador agrees to get General Habib to talk to Fayed. They have been working together without the permission of FCs administration. The bomb crashes to the ocean and they don't recover it because it was a bluff. Is the TEYOP crazy? Yes, crazy like a fox (hahaha, the show is on FOX, I'm cracking myself up already!)
Meanwhile Jack beats up Fayed and starts looking for his manpurse with the medi-interrogation accessories to get more information. They move Fayed and they get AMBUSHED. Oh NO! Jack and Ricky, I mean Doyle, are both shot! The sleeper cell picks up Fayed and they take him away. After the bad guys are away, Jack pops up like Dracula from the dead. The sleeper cell is a plant to get Fayed to lead CTU to the suit nukes. Brilliant! Nadia after Doyle is shot asks if he need medical assistance. This gets Nadia an evil glare from Milo. After all they are going steady now since he forcibly kissed her in the hallway during a nucular crisis! We all agree that Milo needs to grow up and not act like a kid in high school!
The General and Fayed speak, but later they realize that there was a distress code in their conversation. Fayed kills the sleeper cell and Jack goes into the tunnel and sees Fayed hijack the garbage truck. Jack slips under the truck and holds on to the undercarriage and tries to talk to CTU. Comms go down and this elicits a dammit from Jack.
Back at the bunker, "W" isn't doing too well. He sees the doctor and the doctor won't give him another shot of adenline. Near the end of the show, he collapses and says to Tom "No one can know!!!"
Jack gets to the destination where all the terrorists are and he disables them all almost single handedly and goes all Jacula on their @$$es by biting off one of the terrorists' thumb. Doyle shows up during the fight to the death between fayed and Jack. Jack wins with some help of other movie scenes! After he saves the world from more suit nukes, he gets a phone call!!! Note to self, after saving the world, having floating rib fragments, internal bleeding, being shot at point blank range with a vest on, hanging on to the undercarriage of the garbage truck and fighting another man to the death, I'm not going to answer my bleeping phone!
He answers it and it's AWWDREY!!! She's alive and being held by the evil Chinese. Jack never had the chance to see the woman in the photo was an outie instead of an innie! The Evil Chinese guy demands that Jack call him back from a secure line if he ever wants to see here alive again!
And we thought Jack was going to catch a break. This leaves us wondering:
Where is Marilyn? Is he going to say goodbye, I'm going to get Audrey? What about Spawn of Bauer? Where is Jack's Dad? When are they going to tell us that Karen is Jack's mom?!?!
Did I miss anything?

Maybe Action Figure Jack and Barbie's Ken Can Share
Shopping the internet for a tiny little man purse for action figure Jack, I found some old news in the blogosphere: Barbie's boy-toy got a makeover last year, including a man-purse.(Note to self: chalk this internet shopping trip up to the most useless form of procrastination ever. At least doing hand laundry yields clean sweaters.)
Ken is undeniably a doll, not an action figure. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
OK, "M" and Friends of The 24 Blog. Barbie: stupid or evil?
(Photo of Ken from The Satchel Pages, a blog devoted to, guess what, the man purse!)

Jack Bauer Doll
Oh, yeah. Didn't we decide that "action figure" was more politically correct?"M"'s birthday is coming up...plenty of time for me to cut back on the soy lattes and save up the $189.99 for the best birthday present ever.
I don't know if they sell a sweet little version of the man purse separately.
(And I may need to keep looking for a Jack doll, I mean action figure, with a better tailor. The suit jacket doesn't fit him too well, and the trousers definitely need to be taken up.)

Jack's Man Purse
You too can have this Jack Bauer style man purse for less than $30! I think some of the other bags are pretty cool. I hope the hubby doesn't see the neat black backpack. He will want it! He has a bag issue :-)

Medical Interrogation! Get Me My Man Purse!
Oh, if only Curtis were here to share this moment with Jack.
No Tony, no Curtis, no wingman to get Jack his man purse at this moment of (relative) glory...the capture and interrogation (medical, natch) of Gradenko.
(And no Audrey. Although "M" and I know she's not dead, Jack isn't letting on that he knows this.)
No wonder Jack is in a World of Pain (WOP)!
And was that Fayed they shot in the neck? And who was the 3rd hostile in the truck? I would have had to sign off if they had killed Brady; thankfully, even 24 isn't that tasteless.

Bauer Yoga: Malasana

In homage to the hilarious Bush Yoga, I've been trolling the web for photos of Jack in yoga poses. Here he is in malasana, or garland pose.

If Jack were to put a rolled towel or blanket beheath his heels, he'd be as beautifully grounded as this yogini, and he'd be able to stretch his spine taller. (This would be a good counter to carrying the man purse, which drags one shoulder down.)

Jack's man purse?
Where is it? He needs his medical interogation supplies. Oh, the cigar cutter will work fine! OW!
But he got the information. Oops got caught!

"Set Up The Interrogation Package"
It's in my man purse, along with the tampax I carry so that chicks think I'm sensitive.
And more brotherly recriminations..."Grae, you don't want to make me do this,"
"We grew up together, Jack. In all those years, I could never make you do anything."
(Even leave my wife alone.)

And I Thought It Was Going to Be a Medical Interrogation
But I guess that Jack doesn't have any syringes in his man-purse.
Buy a Jack Bauer Man-Purse
Thanks to tvdork for pointing out a great shopping opportunity. As "M" and I are women, we already have our girly bags.
But a man bag does give a guy that certain je ne sais quoi -- it says, "Like Jack, I'm secure! And it isn't just because I've got a pile o' weapons in my purse..."

Of course, Jack is so secure, I'll bet he has some extra tampax in that man purse! (Great for stopping up bullet holes, as well as showing his sensitive side to Suburban Mom.)
