Previously on 24: Lightning Strikes Once

The 28-year-old president (hereafter referred to as TEYOP) is apparently the first leading black man spared (thus far) by 24's writers. (We still don't know what has happened to Walid, although I'd put him in the "supporting actor" category. I wouldn't take bets that either of these fine men are off the 24 hit list.)

Improbably, the surprisingly unfettered medical team tending the comatose TEYOP accedes to Karen's plot to have the poor guy awakened. "W"'s fully conscious, looking quite energetic and babe-a-licious. He's totally ready to throw down with the Evil Veep over planned nucular strikes against some unnamed country that has nothing to do with the terrorists who blowed up Valencia, California with a suitcase bomb.

The Evil Veep roars (somehow without moving any of his facial muscles; note to self: Botox really must work) that TEYOP must not be competent...I'm sure we'll be coming back to that this week. Yaaaawn.

Jack has a ludicrous interlude with two guys. Mark works for some unnamed company and can get into some server that gives Fayed and Gradenko information they need to launch the next nuke. Mark's brother Brady is a computer savant who is otherwise a little slow.

I can't remember for the life of me how Jack and his cohorts come to be storming Mark's house, but they do. Instead of medically interrogating Mark, they manage to somehow shoot him and get him to cave and confess...and then to tell his brother to join Jack's team.

After tenderly briefing Brady, Jack and his team wire him for sound and send him off to a meet with Gradenko. Jack is talking into Brady's ear and telling him what to do. (If I may presume to speak for "M" and some of the Friends of The 24 Blog, I think that we would agree that it was tasteless to use this slow gentle savant as a plot point. An oozingly obvious device to assign tenderness points to Jack.)

Jack tells Brady to take a dive, and all heckfire breaks loose as the tac team goes all medieval on the terrorists. There is talk about 3 hostiles.

It looks like Fayed goes down, and Jack has Gradenko in his clutches.

Jack and Doyle have a very Jack and Tony CTU male bonding moment. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

There is some improbable data stripping in the field. ("M" is in IT, she was hysterical about this.)

No sign of the 3rd hostile. I'm sure we'll come back to that this week. (Maybe the Omar Sharif-like guy we saw the other week? Or had Gradenko just found a tube of hair gel? I couldn't tell in the half-light with my eyes on my computer screen/multitasking with the blog.)

Gradenko caves and starts confessing. No medical interrogation. He starts yammering about amnesty, failing to recall that everyone who gets amnesty on 24 pretty much winds up dead. (He must have missed the first few seasons.) Jack threatens him with as only Jack can. Ruthlessly.

"M" and I hope that Brady will be working at CTU next season. (Sigh, we both miss Eggar.)

Central sends some slick guy over -- another alumni of the Denver Starbucks where Ricky and Milo apparently locked lattes back in the day -- to prove that that Nadia isn't evil.

Nadia and Milo smooch. Bored now.

"M", anything else?

Rudy's Been Watching Too Much 24

Evidence:

  1. He says that, if elected President, his wife can be somewhat of a de-facto cabinet member (like both the adult President Palmer and the eeevil President Logan).
  2. He has friends who may not be criminals -- they might just have very bad judgement (like Logan, and likely the Evil Veep).
  3. Oh, yeah. I forgot: he wanted to suspend democracy after 9/11. We seem to forget his very public comments that maybe it would be difficult for there to be an orderly transition between the Bloomberg administration and Rudy's rule.
Hmmm. I'm hoping that at least one of the above will take him out of the running.

Worried about Milo's fate

I've been thinking. I'm a little worried about Milo's fate and morals. I think that he will be at the end of Jack's wrath sometime soon. I think that he won't fare as well as Milo the Curious cat on the right with his friend Otis. I think his destiny is more like the photo on the left. (This is one of my favorite movies -->) I wonder who is Otis the pug nose pup... maybe Chloe?

Well, Another Hour Of Our Lives

"M", I'm glad that we have this life-affirming way of sharing time together.

Highlights?
  • Dammit = 2 (1 by Milo)
  • Perimeter= 0
  • Dead mentally handicapped savants = 0
  • Dead black men = 0
  • Magazines read by Karen=0
  • Nucular detonations = 0
  • Scenes where Jack was tender = at least 3
  • Scenes where Jack was ruthless = every other scene minus at least 3
  • Times that "A" was Wrong = 1
  • Women proven to be stupid tonight = 0
  • Women proven to be evil tonight = 0 (although, we're pretty sure about the Evil Veep's blonde factotum. (Or is it "factota"?)

Signing off for now...

COME ON How many times

can they use the 25th Amendment?!?!?!?!? They have to come up with something new!!

And as "A" mentioned he is a resilient bastard, like Walker and Tucker from Cliffhanger, one of our favorite B movies.

Thanks for reading tonight! It was one of the better 24's in recent weeks! I still worry about Jack's floating rib fragments and internal bleeding, but he like the president is a resilient bastard. I miss Curtis, he was resilient until Jack got him.

Principal Wood, I mean Pres Palmer

YAY!!!! You are in big trouble evil Veep!

I'm so relieved that the Handsome president wasn't killed off!

Gradenko, you know what I'll do

Gradenko is an Easy Mark

They haven't even done anything medical to him yet!

Oh, please. They all want amnesty on 24. Once you give it to one guy, everyone's gonna be whining for it. (But doesn't Gradenko know...things don't usually end well for people Jack gets amnesty for.)

The Evil Veep, staying the course. And his blonde toady, could she be more obviously sinister?

"W"! W is for Waking up! Oh, is the 28 year old president going to fire the Evil Veep????

W is also for wrong. I was wrong, wrong, wrong. I hope.

Medical Interrogation! Get Me My Man Purse!

Oh, if only Curtis were here to share this moment with Jack.

No Tony, no Curtis, no wingman to get Jack his man purse at this moment of (relative) glory...the capture and interrogation (medical, natch) of Gradenko.

(And no Audrey. Although "M" and I know she's not dead, Jack isn't letting on that he knows this.)

No wonder Jack is in a World of Pain (WOP)!

And was that Fayed they shot in the neck? And who was the 3rd hostile in the truck? I would have had to sign off if they had killed Brady; thankfully, even 24 isn't that tasteless.

Jack tell him to tie his shoe

Bend over!!!

COME ON!!!

The code team would be in the room with him! For heaven's sake, he is the President of the UNITED STATES!!!

OK, This is Inadvisable Discretion

Jack is talking the sweet impaired savant guy through a meet with Gradenko????

Nucular, nucular, nucular.

Brady, take a dive!

Listen Nadia,,,

I knew you weren't guilty Nadia, because I'm the evil one! Smoochy smoochy. Gradenko, DH reminds us, is going to be there in 20 mintues. No time for hanky panky! That and where they are is surrounded in windows, giving CTU a nice peep show

Nadia, Get Back to Work!

Bill, you've got that yogic touch, go with the motivational speech here.

(Of course, Milo probably coached him...he just got back from the Seven Habits of Highly Effective CTU staffers seminar.)

Milo's feelings for Nadia are now out in the open. Someone's gonna get hurt when we find out that one of them is a bad guy.

"Dammit!" Smoooch. Eew. (Ok, maybe they are just now the new Tony and Michelle. But I gotta tell you two kids -- CTU relationships start cute, but they never end well.)

Milo vs. Doyle

Milo is so evil I bet!!! Nadia, I don't think that she is evil or stupid, just unlucky!

Brady, the new Eggar

I think Brady is going to be the next Eggar?

Where's Jack's Dad, Anyways?

What happened with the whole Bauer clan?

Mark is a good liar. Oh, no. Don't tell me that Jack is actually going to send Brady to meet with Gradenko? This is just too much.

And who is this slick-looking guy? Oh, he's the plot device that proves Nadia is not guilty. And now Doyle and Milo are having a Jack and Tony kind of moment.

And now, another possible bad guy, the slickster.

"M" says : Hubby thinks that Brady is a dead man!!!! Not a good idea. I agree, he will say something about Jack the nice police officer.

What the heck....

There are too many characters! This new guy on loan from Central? He owes Ricky big from Denver? What the heck happened in Denver???

This is a photo from the April 2003 snow storm that canceled our trip.
